Our client are a major rail organisation based in London who require a Civil or Architectural Lead Design Engineer to work on rail engineering projects.
Purpose of the job: ? The Lead Design Engineer is responsible for ensuring the cost effective and timely delivery of technical input for all engineering work to be undertaken within the scope of the Project. ? To ensure that the technical aspects of design work comply with applicable legislation and all relevant standards. ? To liaise with interested parties, including enforcing authorities, about design issues. ? Responsible for co-ordinating the technical aspects of design and system interfaces. ? Developing a Design Management Plan for each phase of the design work to enable the maintenance of good design control and the appropriate management of all design risks. ? Manage the performance and competence of the design team within the Project in conjunction with the Project Engineering Manager and Senior Function Manager. ? Ensure effective communication between all members of the design team to enable the integration of all design elements so that effective delivery of the Project design scope is achieved. ? Leading and documenting regular Design Reviews throughout all phases of design. ? Leading the development and co-ordination of Design Risk Assessments to demonstrate that the designer?s responsibilities under CDM have been fulfilled. ? Managing the design change control process and timely response to technical queries during the construction*implementation phase of the Project.
Experience required: ? Five years experience as a Senior Designer within a multidiscipline engineering environment. ? Demonstrable competence in a relevant engineering discipline. ? Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. ? Education to degree level or extensive experience ? Membership of a recognised engineering institution. ? Chartered Engineer
Desirable: ? Five years experience on railway projects. ? Technical presenter of papers at Institution events. ? Membership of a rail industry learned society or special interest group.
